Listen to your body

Every step you take is a conversation. Hear the crunch of gravel under your feet. Notice how your heel meets the ground and how your weight rolls through to your toes. Feel your ankles, knees and hips working together, your muscles switching on and off, your joints guiding each movement.

This is body awareness, what physical therapists call proprioception: your body's constant sense of where it is and how it moves. Most of the time it runs quietly in the background. At I Move, we teach you to tune in, stay present, and understand why your body moves the way it does.

Your body is always talking

Your body sends you messages in every position, all day long, whether you are listening or not.

At your desk. Hours in front of a screen, and slowly your body folds forward. Your shoulders round, your head drifts ahead of your body, your chin pokes out into space. Over months and years, this builds the hunched upper back many people recognize in the mirror. Your neck and shoulder muscles work overtime to hold your head up, and the messages start: stiffness, aching, tension, headaches.

Behind the wheel. Long drives lock your hips, back and neck in one position for hours, and your body notices.

On the pavement. When you run on concrete, every foot strike sends force back up through your body. It travels from your feet to your knees, to your hips, along your spine, all the way to your head. Your body is built to absorb and use that force, but only when every link in the chain is strong and moving well.

On the stairs. Climbing stairs or dropping into a deep squat asks a lot of your knees. Pay attention to how they feel. They will tell you when something isn't right.

In your shoes. Think about your toes, especially your big toe. Narrow toe boxes and high heels squeeze your toes together and push your body weight forward onto them. Over time, this pressure can contribute to bunions and foot pain. Your feet are your foundation. Treat them like it.

Pain, stiffness and fatigue are not random. They are your body's way of telling you something needs to change.

Designed to move

The human body was built for movement. It is designed to stand tall, walk, run, climb, reach, hang and jump, full of energy. It was not designed to stay folded into a seated, curled-up position for most of the day.

You may have heard that "sitting is the new smoking." The comparison makes a point: a life with too little movement takes a real toll, from your joints and muscles to your heart and metabolism.

The good news: there is no single perfect posture. The best posture is your next posture. Your body thrives on change, variety and movement. So stand tall, shift positions, get up, stretch, walk. Every move counts.

I move

"I move" is more than our name. It is a promise you make to yourself.

It means choosing movement consciously, until it becomes a habit you follow without thinking. It means taking an active role in your own health and recovery, because the most important person in your treatment is you.

At Imove, we help you listen to your body, understand what it is telling you, and move with strength, confidence and freedom. We don't just treat your pain. We help you move better for life.

Movement keeps your body alive. It adds life to your life.

I move. I breathe. I live.
